On the bright side of
things i really have to pay compliments to HOME and
HOME for making my stay in Nepal possible, the
experience of living in Kathmandu for three months
has been amazing. There has been something new to
see everyday. The best thing about staying at the
orphanage has been having to rely on speaking
Nepalese everyday as no one there speaks English.
Learning Nepalese and having fun with it has
enriched my time in Nepal so much more than it would
have if I'd been with an English speaking family. I
got to know Nepalese friends that don't speak any
English and made friendships that will last beyond
my stay in Nepal and have memories that will last
beyond my stay in Nepal and have memories that will
last a lifetime. I have you to thank for this, the
language program in the first week was definitely
worthwhile and now I'd like to learn to speak
Nepalese fluently and return to Nepal sometime in
the future.

My story of volunteering for Hope and Home in
Nepal.
|
"Namaste"
Nepal is full of colors,
animals, people, rickshaws, life, temples, I felt alive like
I never felt before. The people of Nepal are beautiful and
want to know everything about you, "what your name", "how
many children do you have" and "who is your husband". from
the moment I stepped off the plane I felt safe and
surrounded by love by the staff at HOPE and HOME and by the
Kathmandu peace guest house staff. I was told that I was
family and was treated as such. Everywhere I went, I felt
like I was with family. Rabyn and Bijen both were very
helpful and always check in with me at least once a
week to make sure I was Ok, once placement started
in the orphanage. My host family was good to me and
make sure I had a lot time to see areas of Kathmandu
and surrounding areas. I got to work with 40
children in the orphanage, and meet some other
people from around the world.
From the moment I walked in the children home and
sew faces of the children I knew I was supposed to
volunteer here,I had seen there faces my whole life imprinted in
depths of my soul. One thing I can say about Nepali people,
there are beautiful people and I never wanted to leave
Nepal, with hopes I will be back one day. "Namaste" |

My time with DRC : (Disabled Rehabilitation Centre
Nepal - October, 2006.)
Once upon a time, a volunteer from
France was looking for a life experience. He wanted to give
time and a bit of himself.
Step by step, he found the Disabled Rehabilitation
Center. He was not just volunteering there, he was
also living there.
|

Saraswati, Kamal, Clément &
Surendra. |
He wasn’t expecting anything
because he was going there without any opinion, bad
or good. He actually received so much. From the
children, from the culture, from the people. He
probably received much more than he could give.
It is too much to describe it in just a few words. A few
words would be too much to describe a feeling. That is all
about. Feelings… When I left, I said :"economists and
politicians said that Nepal is one of the poorest country in
the world. You taught me that Nepal is a very rich country". |

I loved living with a host family and i
think it is the best way to live while volunteering because
it really helps foreigners to further understand the culture
in Nepal. I felt welcome at once, and have absolutely
nothing to complain about other than being over-fed!
In conclusion I love Nepal, I love all the girls at Parizat
and I have made some great friends. Rabyn and Bijen were
perfect hosts for the organisation, as were my host family-
Thank you very much for such a wonderful experience!

I would like to thank you and congratulation you all for the
very good organisation and work you have done. I really
enjoyed working with you and since I applied as a volunteer,
you have always been available and helpful with the
information I needed.
Arriving in Kathmandu made me feel very secure since
everything was very well planned and organized. The training
program was very good with Nepali lessons and visit. I
enjoyed staying at your guest house a lot.
Thank you for your kindness and help when I was sick, for
the picnic together in Nagarkot and Bungmati, your
hospitality and friendship.
I will remember my time here in Nepal forever Thankas to you
the orphans and all the great Nepalese people I have met.
I hope to come back one day...........Merci
mille fois!!

I have volunteered one month with HOPE and HOME in Pokhara
in an orphanage, taking care of 60 children. I organized
acting, computer, English and dance classes.
|

Martine and Rebecca
in Namaste Child Home |
I also organized outdoor
activities such as taking the kids to visit the
Pokhara airport to show them what is the engineering
work in aeronautics. Airplanes are one of my
passions and kids where very curious. The atmosphere
and staff were very friendly. This is an
unforgettable experience. There are few NGOs
allowing people from such diverse backgrounds and
nationalities to volunteer. HOPE and HOME has this
capability. |
This is a chance for us to
contribute wonderful projects in such a culturally rich
country as Nepal. I made friends among the volunteers and
future travel partners. I will remember this month in Nepal
as one of my best souvenirs.

My experience volunteering in Nepal with HOPE and HOME has
been an excellent one.
The transfer form the airport, training, sightseeing, and
the consistent, correspondence
was conducted with outmost professionalism. Correspondence
before arriving to Nepal was also timely and helpful. The
website and quick email responses helped to alloy fears and
answer questions. I would recommend ant person to use Hope
and Home when volunteering, from a logistical standpoint.
What made HOPE and HOME stand out the most was their
willingness to go beyond normal expectations. If we ever
needed anything, there was always a willing helper at our
side. I felt as is I were a part of their family. Some
examples include helping us organize a trek, buying a
mosquito coil, helping us to get good deals on merchandise
etc. In all, they helped us feel at home, despite being
halfway across the globe from our true home
Our placement at Parizat Nestling Home gave us an excellent
opportunity to serve and love ht children of Nepal. The
ladies of Parizat as well as their mother and father were an
absolute joy to work with. They made us feel a part of their
family as well. The orphanage was organized efficiently,
responsibly, and with love and integrity. They will forever
have a place in our hearts.
Our placement with the host family was conducted with
professionalism, as well as with all aspects of our
experience, they treated us like family. It was a joy to
share life with host family, the food and service was beyond
expectation. Our accommodations were comfortable, allowing
us to experience like as Nepali's live it; which is what we
desired. The cultural immersion was informative and
fulfilling.

I have truly enjoyed every aspect of being in Nepal. Hope
and Home has been an excellent organization to volunteer
with! They always ensured that we were taken care of by
helping us organize activities, showing us around Kathmandu,
and helping us make purchases. The orphanage that we were
assigned to volunteer at was so amazing! Every person there
has been a true joy to get to know. Its comforting to know
the girls are in safe and happy place! Our host family has
been so wonderful as well! The food was "Metho Chha" as well
as the tea. More importantly though is the family. They are
so wonderful, and have made us feel we will always have a
family in Nepal. Thank you everyone for making out time here
so wonderful! You will always be close to my heart and in my
prayers! Continue the good work that you are doing!

My time here in Nepal under the accommodation of HOPE and
HOME has been phenomenal experience. It has been a real
learning experience but a very good experience in the same
from the moment. I stepped out the plane to the time of my
departure, the people here have been the definition of
hospitality. I can not express how relieved I was to see my
name on the card as they picked me up from the airport when
I arrived in Kathmandu and now I will say that I am quite
sad to leave their place, these people who have made me so
very welcome in their home no only I was taken care of but I
had blessing to be able to serve a little with my time spent
here. The children at the orphanage are so precious and I am
so grateful to have able to spend time with them.

"Thank-you Hope and Home for
providing me with the opportunity to be of
service to the children of the Disabled
Childrens' Centre in Chuchepati, Kathmandu. The
children and the staff were great to work with
and the language lessons provided by Hope and
Home were invaluable! The homestay placement
with the Pokhrel family was beyond anything I
expected. They welcomed me as part of the
family, taught me about various aspects of the
Nepali culture, and opened my eyes to the issues
that urban and rural Nepalis face each and every
day.
Once again, Dhanyabad Rabyn and Bijen, for all that you
do for the children of Nepal and for helping to expand our
global community." |

Christina & Romy brightening up the gloomy girls’ and boys’ room |
Firstly, I have no
reservation in recommending Hope and Home
to family and friends. The staff is friendly and
efficient. They are trustworthy and reliable.
Every 2 or 3 days one of the staff from Hope and
Home would come and visit or call to check on me
and another volunteer, Romy from Luxembourg. In
short, this is what I called “Personalised
Service” which I received from Hope and Home.

After farewell dinner in
Parizat |
"Things are great here. For us, the most memorable parts of
our experience in Nepal were the faces, the smiles, and the
relationships with Parizat Nestle Home (Orphanage)
Girls. Each moment with them was so cherishable that we
cannot pick a single experience. We teach Bible and some
choirs to the girls. Also, we love our host family. They
take great care of us, we will miss them also."

It was a great volunteering experience with HOPE & HOME, overall
an incredible, beautiful experience. I would do it again…I had
problems with the language. It wouldn’t hurt to learn a little
Nepali, as most of the families spoke no English. The yummy food
(Dal Bhat), and the world's best hospitality. I learned tons and
I think I taught a few things as well.

Thank you for organising my trip to
Nepal. when I first came to here I didn't know what to
expect but I was pleasantly surprised both Kathmandu and
Pokhara are like no other place I have ever been and they
are so interesting, beautiful and lively. It was very
helpful to have an introduction to the language and culture
and I loved being shown around Kathmandu on the motorbike! |

Nikhil Celebrating his 19th Birthday |
I thoroughly enjoyed the Kathmandu tour.
Bijen took me to some beautiful as well as spiritual
locations around the Kathmandu valley.
Thank you to RABYN and BIJEN for my
surprise 19th Birthday celebration. It was birthday that I will never forget. Nepal is a country with friendly people and a lot can
be learnt from them. It was great to interact with the Parizat Children
and they will be deeply missed! |

"The most memorable part of my
experience was meeting the local community and my host family; they
taught me a lot about the culture and way of life in rural Nepal that I
would never otherwise have had the opportunity to learn. They also made
me feel at home in their country and eased the whole experience. "

My
Volunteering Experiences in Nepal |
|
Since, I first stepped off the plane, I have
found nothing but warm hearts and smiling faces. I have to say
that Nepalese people have to be the kindest people I have
encountered through out my travels.
The host family living situation was
beautiful. It was the best way to really experience this culture
I had the privilege of being here on the two most popular
holidays celebrated, Dashain and Tihar. |

Bria with Parijat Children |
I felt so blessed by my family members. They included me as
their own in the beautiful ceremonies and receiving Tika,
which was an experience I will never forget. I will always
feel like I have a father, mother, brother and sister here.
I worked with 35 girls in an orphanage. It was great to be
with a large family of sisters, and see their desire to be
come a greater generation of women in Nepal. Given the
opportunity to study is taken very seriously by each one. I
was amazed at the level they pushed themselves to and saw,
in the making, a stronger future generation of Nepal. You
can learn so much from a child, and in the end I realized,
they did so much more for me than I could have ever done for
them.
Trekking was the best! you definitely don't see the beauty of
the country being in Kathmandu ! There was always something
to keeps a smile on your face you must get out and walk
around to feel every last bit of what this country has to
offer!.
I just love this country! I love the people and I love the way
I feel while I am here. I can't wait to come back!

My
participation in the Hope and Home Volunteer Program has been an
incredibly rewarding experience. I enjoyed each and every aspect of my 2
months in Nepal. The Nepalese people have the happiest faces and are the
friendliest people I have ever met; although a poor country it is
spiritually so rich and I feel lucky I had the opportunity to enjoy part
of their culture and been welcomed into their lives, an experience I
will not forget.
