Hope and Home is going to offer you meditation program at Buddhist Monasteries in Nepal. This is a great opportunity for visitors who want to be in the monasteries. There are several Tibetan refugees Camps and Monasteries that house hundreds of Tibetan kids taking Buddhist monk. This is a great opportunity for the people who want to learn about Buddhism where you have a greatvchance to participate in some monasteries programs & meditation.
Tibet is also a Buddhist country and there are more than 130,000 Tibetans who live in exile and out of that over 20% of them are living in Nepal . Despite of all difficulties, these exiled Buddhists are practicing their religion and rebuilding their cultural heritage in their own little ways. In this mission of the Tibetans in Nepal, education of the children is the top most priority and command of English is very important.
The Tibetan children are very keen to learn and improve their conversational English to brighten their future and also to be able to translate and preserve the holy Buddhist scriptures. Primary education schools, in the Tibetan Children’s Village were established by the Tibetan community in Nepal. These schools support religious practices in their studies and provide schooling in Buddhist philosophies as well as a variety of other areas such as English and computer skills.
The schools in Buddhist Monk are resource poor, and under staffed. These schools also need teachers who can teach good English to the students. Apart from teaching English, volunteers can also teach extra curricular activities like sports, drawing, music, etc to develop the perceiving power of the children and also help in the administrative works.
Role of Volunteer
Volunteers will primarily work as English instructors either the schools of Tibetan Children’s Village. Depending upon the need, volunteers may be asked to assist in other school extra curricular activities like sports. As a unique facet of this placement, the volunteer will have a rare and unique opportunity to witness and participate in traditional Buddhist rituals.
• Teach English (2-3 hours a day) in the school
• Organizing games, drawing, singing, dancing, and other creative education and extra curricular activities
• Taking kids on educational tours
• Helping kids to do homework, monitor academic progress,
• Other helps on administration
• Help in other activities or programs designed for school children (If any)
Skills/Qualifications Needed
There is no need of specific qualification for teaching English project in Nepal. However, volunteer interested to teach the children must have good command of English.
HOPE and HOME manages room/food for volunteer. In most of the cases, volunteer stay with host family where we manage a separate room and Nepali food three times a day. Volunteer can also stay inside the premises of Buddhist temple
Project also offers unlimited opportunities to witness and participates in traditional Buddhist rituals.
NOTE: For confirmation to this program you need to apply at least 3 months in advance and need to send your flight details at least two months before your arrival to Nepal.

What is included in the Price?
• Airport pick-up:
Arriving in a new country is always exciting. We want your arrival to be as relaxed as possible. One of our guest house members will pick you up at the airport He/she will be waiting for you at the airport with a sign with your name on it.
• Visits to sights in Kathmandu:
Trips to local landmarks during Orientation
• Orientation program:
Participants receive an orientation after arriving in Nepal that will acquaint them with the culture, the program, and the surrounding area. Topics such as health and safety, transportation and travel, communication and cultural perspectives will be reviewed. We try to do the orientation with several volunteers simultaneously, so there will be ideal options to gain new contact.
• Accommodation:
During the orientation days you will be staying in a hostel in Kathmandu. Afterwards you will be brought to the project together with other volunteers, where you are accommodated by a host family.
Housing varies based on the placement location. During the volunteering stage of the placement, housing typically consists of a home stay with a local host family. This is a great opportunity for volunteers to learn experientially about Nepali culture and family life. Volunteers can expect pleasant yet modest accommodations.
Some placements include residential accommodations, which means the volunteer lives at the project site.
• All Meals:
2 meals per day are offered wihin the host family. Traditional Nepalese food will be served to volunteers. During first 2 days of training in hostel only breakfast and lunch will be provided.
• In-country transportation
Airport Pickup, transportation during Kathmandu sightseeing program and trasport to project placements. After that volunteers are responsible for daily transportation to and from their projects.
